Save our Local and #HospitalityStrong, two great initiatives we’re getting behind

In response to the many challenges being faced by our industry, Nestlé Professional is committed to supporting the foodservice community by partnering with industry initiatives like Save Our Locals and #HospitalityStrong.

In recent weeks, most restaurants and cafes have been forced to shut their doors or significantly change their business model, leaving many favourite local venues closed and thousands of talented staff in the hospitality industry either stood down, or without a job. The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that since lockdown, a staggering 82% of hospitality jobs have been lost.[1]

 

Save our Locals

Save Our Locals is an online market supporting local cafés and restaurants with an alternative income stream to keep their lights on and staff employed. The initiative supports restaurants by delivering fresh meal kits to home cooks – giving them the opportunity to recreate chefs’ restaurant signature dishes simply at home. Australians are adjusting to being at home and have returned to hobbies like cooking to keep themselves occupied. Since lockdown began, there has been a 71%[2] increase in time spent on cooking websites, with young people spending 144%[3] more time following online recipes. This surge in interest represented a great opportunity for foodservice businesses to service this shift in demand for quality food, created at home.

#HospitalityStrong

Another great example of industry support is from Hospitality magazine, the leading industry title who has launched #HospitalityStrong. The go-to hub is crammed full of useful resources, news, support and insights for foodservice professionals designed to find new ways to forge ahead.

Group Publisher at Food & Beverage Media Paul Wootton explained traffic to the Hospitality website had nearly doubled since the lockdown began.
